about

This song is a reflection of a difficult time in Becca's life, but it's a theme that so many of us can relate to. Although it started as a very personal expression, it's become a song for anyone that's had a time, or a place in their lives, where they were ignored. Where people either can't see, or aren't interested in the real you... or they did see you, and you just didn't fit in. I think it's a beautiful irony, the way people bond over a common feeling of rejection and isolation.

lyrics

I didn’t come here to fake it, I came here to be
But what does that make me, in the light of this place?
I need to stand out, but I stick out like a sore thumb
And everybody’s miming as the words role off their tongues

Chorus:
I’m naked for you under these clothes
I’m naked and you don’t even seem to know
You don’t even seem to know

Ironically sex sells, which means skin, still it doesn’t make me blend in
Under these rags of mine I’m a different shade of blue
It’s more of a purple, maybe a pink, but you could miss me if you blink
Like reality amidst the parts and roles, in the sea of souls
In the sea of souls, in the sea of souls, in the sea of souls

*Chorus*

The air in this place makes my heart race and it’s hard to breathe
You stare but your expression doesn’t change
And it hurts & it hurts & it hurts and it hurts….

*Chorus*
